How to Volunteer with Okanogan County Fire District 6

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer firefighter with Okanogan County Fire District 6 (OCFD6).

OCFD6 is always looking for new members who are willing to serve the community, who will invest their personal time to training, emergency response, and public service, and who will represent the professional and dedicated service that our members bring to the community.

In order to qualify as a potential OCFD6 member you must be at least 16 years old, be in good physical and mental health, and live within, or in the vicinity of District 6. Upon receipt of the application form at OCFD6, the District may (at its option) have a criminal background check conducted, you will then have an interview, and be asked to attend our weekly training sessions.

Once these steps are successfully completed you become a ‘New Recruit’ firefighter and begin your training. You may also be asked to complete additional paperwork (for example, driving records, medical history) depending on the various roles you want to participate in as a firefighter.

General training sessions are held every Thursday at 7PM and usually last 3 hours. As a new recruit you are expected to attend every session. Also you are required to attend ‘Recruit’ training which is conducted by OCFD 6 personnel. This training consists of several classroom and hands-on sessions and in-total takes approximately 24 hours.

Once you have successfully completed the recruit training you will take the ‘Firefighter Trainee’ course, which consists of several full day (8 hours) hands on training classes. All training is paid for by OCFD6.

Our members are proud of the level of professional training they receive, the skills they master, and the service they provide. They look forward to working with you as you strive to acquire the ranking of OCFD6 Firefighter and experience the excitement, challenges, and rewards of being a volunteer firefighter. We work hard, have fun, and build camaraderie and trust among our fellow firefighters.

If you have questions, would like to visit our station(s), or attend a training session to better understand the OCFD6 organization, please contact one of the Captains at 997-2981.

Sincerely,

Cody Acord
